Birth Preparation
Birth preparation consultations/sessions
These sessions are tailored to meet your individual needs and are offered and facilitated separately from the birth and/or postnatal doula roles. Sessions can be facilitated in your own home if desired and typically last between 2 and 3 hrs. Written materials are included in the fee. You may wish to consider participating in one of the following personal birth preparation consultations:
Debriefing: a session which involves exploring feelings and events surrounding previous birth experiences with a view to enhancing future experiences.
Active birth: a session focused on exploring how an active birth may minimise intervention, discussion around pain management options, using positions that are gravity assisted, exploring the benefits of labour and birth in water, and how partners can provide positive support.
VBAC: a session which investigates options with regard to VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean), including debriefing previous caesarean birth experience(s) and how to increase your chances of achieving VBAC.
Labour and birth in water: a session exploring the benefits of labour and birth in water and how to make the most out of using water as a method of pain management in labour.
Getting partners involved: a session which focuses on ways in which partners can provide practical support during labour and birth, eg. positions, pain management, massage, assertiveness, etc.
